Weddings at The Rookery

There’s Chicago iconic, and then there’s Frank Lloyd Wright iconic. The Rookery, a stunning building in the heart of downtown Chicago, is both of those things.

The lobby of The Rookery features a gorgeous, bright atrium called by the romantic name the Light Court. It soars two stories and is topped by an architectural glass-and-steel ceiling that floods the space in natural light. It’s one of those jaw-dropping architectural spots in Chicago that I cannot get enough of! I’ve been documenting weddings for more than a decade, and The Rookery is one location I could spend every weekend.

Originally designed by the famous Burnham & Root, and later updated by Frank Lloyd Wright, this building is one of the most unique, venerated locations in the city for weddings and is brimming with elegance and romantic ambiance. If you’re seeking a historic setting steeped in the beauty of Chicago architecture in which to celebrate your wedding, then there aren’t too many locations that could top The Rookery.

Ceremony & Reception Spaces

The Light Court: The atrium of The Rookery includes generous floor space and a mezzanine level connected by sweeping staircases. Guests typically enjoy cocktail hour on the mezzanine while below them, the Light Court is magically transformed from ceremony celebration into reception party before their eyes. The famous Oriel Staircase is a favorite private spot for portraits.

The Light Court can seat up to 200 guests for a dinner, or up to 400 for a cocktail reception.

What’s Nearby?

The Rookery sits in the heart of the financial district, making it centrally located to transit, hotels, and all downtown Chicago has to offer. Its location close to countless hotels also makes it convenient for out-of-town guests. I highly recommend the JW Marriott for wedding preparations. Not only is it conveniently right around the corner, but the hotel’s white + gold aesthetic blends seamlessly with the look and feel of The Rookery, meaning your photos will have cohesion from start to finish.
